Following last year’s release of 50 year old Yamazaki malt, Japanese distillers Suntory have released another whisky retailing at 1,000,000 yen.
The 35-year-old Hibiki blended whisky does, however, come in packaging made by what the press release describes as a “living national treasure”.
The bottle is made of the highly sought after Kakiemon pottery, made by the fourteenth Sakaida Kakiemon – the direct descendant of the 17th century potter who invented the style.
Made of milky white porcelain and depicting azalea flowers, only 150 bottles have been made and the contents are a blend of whiskies between 35 and 46 years old, bottled at 46% abv.
And if you’re wondering how much a million-yen whisky will set you back, it’s roughly £7,700.
