Details in of another of the masterclasses at The Whisky Exchange’s London Whisky Show in October, with whisky writer Dave Broom taking patrons on an expedition from Scotland to Japan.
Dave will be talking afficionados through the history of whisky distilling in Japan and how the malts produced there have evolved over the last 90 years to develop their own unique, and world-beating, style.
The masterclass will consist of three paired tastings, with Japanese whiskies from Suntory matched up to comparable single malt Scotches from Morrison Bowmore.
The whiskies include samples of Auchentoshan and Hakushu (both light malts), fruitier whiskies from Glen Garioch and the 18 year old Hakushu, and the Gold Bowmore 1964 and Yamazaki 1984 to demonstrate the effects of ageing.
“From Scotland to Japan with Dave Broom and friends” takes place on Saturday 6 October at1pm. Tickets are £55, available from www.whisky-show.com/masterclasses/from-scotland-to-japan/. A valid weekend or Saturday ticket for the Whisky Show is also required to attend this masterclass.
