The Speyside Whisky Trail is going to be the backdrop to a new sportive, or mass meet, in the world of road cycling this summer.
On June 24, hundreds of cyclists will set out from Elgin on a journey that will take them past many of the region’s famous distilleries, including Glenfiddich, Glenlivet and The Macallan.
According to the cycling site road.cc, there are 40 and 80 mile events for the serious cyclists, as well as a 10 mile family ride, and money raised from entrance fees will go to North East Sensory Services.
David Lang, of organisers Maximise Sport, said, “The Whisky Trail Sportive has all the elements necessary to deliver an outstanding sportive – great roads, magnificent scenery and an exceptional route, following parts of the renowned Malt Whisky Trail all contribute to create an event with outstanding potential.”
