For the first time, the whisky element of the esteemed International Spirit Challenge is being held in Scotland – at Edinburgh’s Scotch Whisky Experience between 5-7 June 2012.
The judging panel of ten of the world’s top master blenders will meet to consider more than 300 whiskies as part of the competition.
The panel, chaired by Edrington’s former master blender John Ramsay, includes: David Stewart, of William Grants & Sons; Gordon Motion, of The Edrington Group; Whyte & Mackay’s Richard Paterson and Diageo’s Caroline Martin. They will be joined by distillers from the USA, Japan, Ireland and Sweden’s Macmyra Distillery.
According to their press release, visitors to the Scotch Whisky Experience will be able to catch a glimpse of the experts at work with a live webcam linked to the Whisky Shop at the venue.
There will also be a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet with the blenders on the night of 6 June, where patrons will get the chance to chat informally with each of the renowned whisky experts on the panel. This will be followed by a tutored tasting with Richard Paterson and question and answer session hosted by John Ramsay.
