Calgary’s Kensington Wine Market has announced the rare and exclusive malts which will be on tasting at their latest Ancient Malts Tasting next Thursday and Friday.
According to their website, the Kensington Wine Market puts on these “epic” tastings to give patrons the chance to try whiskies they can usually only dream of buying. Among the bottles they have opened in the past are Black Bowmore 1964, Gold Bowmore 1964, Macallan 50 Year Lalique and Auchentoshan 1957 50 Year Old.
The next tasting marks the trend among malt whisky distillers to release 40 year old expressions, and on both nights seven different 40 year olds will be opened and sampled. The list includes: Benriach 1971 40yo, Fettercairn 40yo, Glendronach 1971 40yo, Glenfarclas 40yo, Glenfiddich 40yo, Highland Park 40yo and the Signatory Bowmore 1970 40yo.
In addition to these seven whiskies, patrons will also be able to taste the Gordon & MacPhail Generations Glenlivet 70 Year Old and receive a commemorative Glencairn tasting glass.
The total cost of the eight bottles on tasting for the night (excluding the Glenlivet Generations) comes to more than $10,000 and so the the ticket price of $275.00 plus tax seems very reasonable.
