The investment by owners Diageo will see capacity grow by up to one million litres a year with the installation of two new fermentation vessels, a new mash tun and upgraded control systems for the stillhouse, reports the North Star newspaper.
The expansion comes on the back of the success of The Singleton of Glen Ord in the Asia-Pacific region.
Senior site manager Kirsty Dagnan said: “As well as being great news for Glen Ord distillery and everyone who works there, this also represents a major financial investment in the local area and economy.
“We are very proud of our distillery and delighted to see this major expansion in capacity. Our single malt brand, The Singleton of Glen Ord, is growing in popularity rapidly and this announcement is a clear signal of our confidence in the continued growth of The Singleton and of Scotch whisky in general.”
Diageo Scotland’s MD, Bryan Donaghey, added: “The expansion of Glen Ord is another indication of our ambitions for the Scotch whisky industry and demonstrates again our confidence in and commitment to the future of Scotland and Scotch.”
