This weekend sees the Benromach Edinburgh Regatta on the River Forth – one of the biggest sailing events on the Forth. And clear skies are predicted by weather forecasters so people from all over Edinburgh and the Lothians are being invited to watch the spectacle.
Yachts from across Scotland and the north of England began arriving today (28 September) and sailors will attend a briefing at the Royal Forth Yacht Club tomorrow morning. Races, organised into four classes, take place on Saturday and Sunday with a prize-giving afterwards.
The event is sponsored by Benromach, the smallest distillery in Speyside. As well as providing participants and winners with some of Scotland’s finest single malt whisky, Benromach is also providing competitors to the regatta. Brothers Richard and Stuart Urquhart, who are part of the family that owns the distillery, are both competing in the event.
Richard Urquhart said in a press release: “The regatta has gone from strength to strength in recent years, now incorporating the 707 Scottish Championships. We’re keen to give the event a Benromach flavour and we’re looking forward to coming down to Edinburgh to take part.”
Jointly organised by Royal Forth Yacht Club, Forth Corinthian Yacht Club and Cramond Boat Club, the Benromach Edinburgh Regatta will be held on the River Forth on the weekend of 29-30 September.
