Ardbeg Distillery have published the expanded timetable for their 2012 distillery tours at their www.ardbeg.com website.
The distillery supplies three ‘basic’ tours – The Ardbeg Express for busy people who know their whisky (Monday to Saturday at 10.00am and 4.15pm, lasts 30 minutes, £4 per head); the hour-long Ardbeg Tour, which shows visitors a few more production secrets (Monday to Saturday, 12.00 noon and 3.00pm, with an extra tour on Sunday at 10.30pm. £5); and the Full Tour lasting an hour-and-a-half that includes a tasting in the Chairman’s study at the end of it (£10 per head, Monday to Saturday 10.30am.)
In addition to these tours, Ardbeg also run a tour specifically dealing with the history of the distillery – “Old Ardbeg, New Ardbeg’, which comes with a tasting of samples in the boardroom at the end. Monday to Saturday (not Wednesday) at 2pm, £20 per person.
On Wednesdays at 11.00am, weather permitting, the distillery takes visitors on a walk to their water source, Airigh Nam Beist. On this new tour , you even get the chance to cut some peat! Lasts four hours, costs £35 per head. Lunch, and a few drams along the way, provided. Bring good walking boots/shoes.
