Ardbeg Galileo due in September

To mark its place as the “first malt whisky made in space” after being used in experiments on the International Space Station, Ardbeg is to release a special limited edition single malt.

The Ardbeg Galileo will be released at the beginning of September and consists of whisky distilled in 1999 and bottled this year.

A large proportion of the final malt has been matured in casks previously used to hold marsala, blended with first fill bourbon casks.

According to the label, which has been leaked on the internet, the whisky has a nose of “spicy toffee, tropical fruits and puffs of soot”, the nose is “salty, yet sweet with cream and a burst of smoking apricots” with a “long, lingering and serene” finish.

The Ardbeg Galileo will retail at £69.99 in the UK and $110 in the USA.
