Drambuie welcome boost in American sales

Whisky liqueur maker Drambuie has seen sales rise in the USA on the back of the growing popularity of cocktails such as the ‘rusty nail’.

Many critics have credited the increased interest in cocktails and flavoured whiskeys on the hit TV series Mad Men, with its hard drinking central character.

Drambuie’s chief exec, Michael Kennedy, told The Scotsman newspaper that the hit series had had an effect.

Their website quotes Kennedy as saying: “Our sales will rise by about 2 per cent in the United States this year. That marks a turning point because we were down about 3 per cent last year.”

The company is predicting sales to be up on the previous year, despite the problems in Eurozone countries such as Spain and Greece, where their brand is particularly strong.
