Abhainn Dearg Distillery on the Isle of Lewis has become one of three island companies to complete the Carbon Trust’s Carbon Management Programme.
The programme helps companies to identify their carbon footprint and develop strategies to reduce it and save energy.
Abhainn Dearg’s founder, Marko Tayburn, was quoted in the Stornoway Gazette as saying: “We are fully committed to reducing our carbon emissions as an ongoing, long term objective, ideally becoming carbon neutral by 2015 with the installation of a hydro turbine at the distillery.
“By working in partnership with the Carbon Trust we have been able to create a Carbon Management Plan that takes us forward to achieving this target.”
Abhain Dearg is the first legal distillery in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides and released its first single malt last October.
