A bottle of The Macallan 50 year old, which was bottled in 1983, is the choice lot in Bonhams’ latest whisky sale in Edinburgh.
The bottle, one of the first 50 year old single malts to be bottled, is still in its original wooden box and the label is described as in “particularly fine condition”. Only 500 bottles were ever released and an estimate of £10,000-£12,000 has been placed on it.
Also in the sale are two Macallan Millennium 50 years old Decanters. Bottled in 1999, the contents of these were selected for a millenium bottling from 3 casks filled in 1949. The Caithness glass decanters include a copper mounted stopper cast from copper reclaimed from No 9 still at the distillery. Both decanters come in their original presentation cases.
Other highlights, according to the auctioneers press release, include a bottle of The Dalmore 50 year old 1926 (£5,000-7,000).
Bonhams Whisky Sale takes place at Bonhams in Edinburgh on Wednesday 27 June. For more information on the sale, go to www.bonhams.
